Portal Wave's New XML B2B Server and Upgraded Application Portal Server 2.0 Improve Application Connectivity Within and Between Enterprises

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA., - January 29, 2001 - Portal Wave, Inc., a developer of Enterprise Application Portal (EAP) solutions that enable integrated e-business, today announced two new products that extend its lead in building EAPs that feature tight portal-to-application integration and workflow. Portal Wave XML B2B Server allows information and transaction exchange between enterprises via XML files. Portal Wave Application Portal Server (APS) 2.0 is an upgrade to the groundbreaking initial version that enables companies to integrate enterprise solutions into a common e-business platform with a single Web interface. These new Portal Wave products allow enterprises to build EAPs that not only connect multiple internal systems seamlessly, but also to connect partner applications within the value chain.

A New Way to Work
EAPs deliver value to companies by exposing business processes-such as quote management, order management, shipping and billing-and integrating them utilizing workflow. EAPs also allow companies to create one Web destination for the supply chain to access mission critical applications like Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP) and legacy systems. Before the XML B2B Server, EAPs were limited to connecting information and transactions within one enterprise. Now trading partners can share information regardless of where the applications reside. Customers, suppliers and partners can all share product information, pricing, availability, order status and production schedules so the EAP truly spans the extended enterprise. In addition, transactions are now possible between trading partners. For instance, a customer can now enter a purchase order into its own ERP systems and have that information sent directly to its vendor's ERP as a sales order.

Portal Wave's New XML B2B Server
Portal Wave's newest product, XML B2B Server, is an Extensible Markup Language (XML) messaging server that provides guaranteed, secure delivery of business information and transactions over the Internet in the form of XML documents. Delivery is guaranteed via message queuing and XML return receipt. A simple log allows users to monitor the delivery status of documents such as purchase orders, invoices and inventory levels. XML B2B Server offers support for HTTP and HTTPS for secure document delivery and uses the same browser-based EAP interface for managing and monitoring delivery status. It supports industry standards for XML exchange between partners and is compliant with RosettaNet standards, a leading XML standard governing supply-chain transactions on the Internet through the standardization of labels for elements like product descriptions, part numbers, pricing data and inventory status.

The Portal Wave Application Portal Server (APS) 2.0
The new XML B2B Server leverages the enhanced EAP functions now available in APS 2.0. The 2.0 upgrade features an improved User Interface (UI) that uses style sheets to make customization quick and easy. From selecting content to determining how it appears, improved personalization features allow users greater flexibility to customize their own portal.

APS 2.0 was built using multi-tenant architecture to allow one instance of APS to run multiple, discreet portals. This feature was designed with application service providers in mind. Collaboration features have also been improved with a new Document Viewer function that allows users to organize and share files in the EAP. Finally, APS 2.0 offers improved support for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and load balancing.
